CONSTRUCTION of the annual ice rink outside of the Royal Pavilion is underway ahead of its opening later this month.
Builders were seen in front of the former royal residence setting up the rink’s platform, with fencing put up around the site.
Lighting rigs have also been erected at each corner of the rink, which will illuminate skaters in colour and light.
The ice rink has welcomed visitors since 2010 and is powered exclusively by renewable energy.
Shella Parkin, managing director of Laine Ltd - which organises the rink every year, told The Argus last month: “It is vital that events like ours - which are all about having fun - ensure that this does not come at a cost to the environment.
“We strongly believe that Christmas rinks like ours must choose renewable energy to meet their power needs.”
A rink-side bar and kitchen, as well as an outdoor spectator area, has yet to be built.
The hugely popular ice rink reopens to visitors on October 29, with tickets for 45-minute skate times available online from £12 for those aged 12 and over and £9 for children.
