TAXI drivers have been left in shock over the death of a man who was run over in the city centre.
The man was taken to hospital after being struck by a taxi in North Street, Brighton, in the early hours of Saturday morning, but later died from his injuries.
The taxi involved in the incident was Brighton and Hove City Council licensed Hackney Carriage.
Drivers at the East Street taxi rank have been left shocked and saddened by the tragedy, feeling both for the man’s family and their fellow taxi driver.
Those who have been affected by the collision have been offered support by the council.
A spokesman for Brighton and Hove City Council, which licenses taxis in the city, said: “We were deeply saddened to hear of the tragic incident on North Street in the early hours of Saturday morning (October 8) involving one of our city’s taxi drivers.
“Our hearts go out first and foremost to the family and friends of the person who was fatally injured.
“It’s also been a huge shock to our taxi community and in particular the driver involved in the incident.
“We are offering support to all drivers who have been affected.
“With a police investigation ongoing, we are unable to comment further.”
