A non-league team has been forced to postpone its match due to a Just Stop Oil protest on the M25 Dartford Crossing.

Lewes FC men’s team were due to host Aveley tonight at The Dripping Pan at 7.45pm.

The club announced that the game is cancelled due to the M25 Dartford crossing protest, a decision made by the Isthmian League.

The club confirmed that all tickets will be valid for the rescheduled date which will be announced in “due course”.

Two people scaled the bridge in the early hours of Monday morning “to demand that the government halts all new oil and gas licences and consents”.

Essex Police said it anticipates that the bridge will remained closed through this evening’s rush hour.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “The QEII bridge is closed to allow us to resolve the situation as safely as possible and a diversion is in place through the tunnel.

“This is a complex operation due to the height at which the protesters are currently situated and it may take some but we are working as quickly as possible.”

Lewes’ next match is at home to Margate this Saturday.
