People will have the chance to meet self-proclaimed “rubbish” artist Hercule Van Wolfwinkle – and win a portrait of their pet.

The animal portrait drawn by Worthing’s Van Wolfwinkle is the star prize in a raffle which will be drawn at an afternoon of discussion, artistry and games in aid of Home-Start, Arun, Worthing and Adur.

The event includes a talk from Hercule on how he became an international media sensation and fundraiser extraordinaire despite, on his own admission, being “rubbish” at art.

There will be live drawings, a chance to practise your own artistry, a question-and-answer session and games – as well as the opportunity to win your pet’s portrait, and some Van Wolfwinkle merchandise.

Mulled wine and a mince pie will also be offer on arrival at Arundel Cathedral Centre on Saturday, November 19, from 2pm to 4 pm.

Van Wolfwinkle’s fundraising career began in 2020 as a joke.

He drew a “rubbish" picture of his dog and put it on Facebook, offering paid-for commissions for a laugh.

But to his astonishment genuine requests flooded in, and the artist – who has now raised more than £200,000 for local charities from his inept pet drawings – boasts a world-wide profile and a national award for his fundraising efforts

"I remember being on the sofa with my wife, laughing that we would never reach £299,” he said.

Much later, after publicly vowing to have his first ever tattoo if fundraising reached £75,000, he had his Hercule Van Wolfwinkle signature tattooed live on Facebook.

A recent winner at the national Just Giving Awards, his fundraising efforts for local charities were recognised by former Prime Minister Boris Johnson with the Points of Light Award.

Tickets, at £27.50 per person, will be sold on a first come, first served basis and there are no concessions as this is a fundraising event for Home-Start AWA.

Mayor of Arundel Councillor Tony Hunt will also be joining the gathering.

Home-Start AWA is a charity which helps families with children under five who are struggling, offering emotional, practical and confidential support, via its network of volunteers and experts along the South Coast between Pagham and Southwick.
