A Great British Bake Off star has given his top three tips for the perfect custard.

Making a surprise appearance at The Cake and Bake Show at the ExCel, London, this weekend, Janusz Domagala, from Brighton, gave his advice on how to make the perfect custard, just in time for GBBO’s custard week tonight.

Janusz’s top three tips for the perfect custard:

1. Control your temperature

“Don’t put it on a very hot stove,” said Janusz, who also suggests only using a low to medium temperature, as this makes it easier to control the cooking process and keeps the custard from curdling.

2. Use natural ingredients

“The second tip is only use natural ingredients, because custard contains milk and fat,” he said.

“If you use artificial flavouring, everyone’s going to know it’s artificial.”

3. Don’t make it gloopy

The last tip? “Don’t make it gloopy,” said Janusz.
