A road is blocked following a crash on the A259 in which a car overturned.

The crash happened at around 2pm this afternoon near Friston Pond, between Seaford and Eastbourne.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said it was “responding to reports of a collision near the A259” and asked people to avoid the area.

A witness said someone was still stuck inside the car.

Brighton and Hove Buses said it was diverting on to the A27 between Newhaven and Eastbourne due to a “major” crash.

Jevington Road is closed bothways due to roadworks. Motorists can divert via the A27 from Eastbourne.

At 3pm, the fire service confirmed it had released one person from the car and they had been taken to hospital.

The road is now reopened but there are residual delays.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "It was a single vehicle RTC reported at about 2.10pm on October 27 on the A259 near the junction with Old Willingdon Road.

"Emergency services attended and temporary road closures were in place. Handed over to East Sussex County Council Highways at about 4.20pm."
