Spooky season is upon us and if you are looking for scary things to do to mark the occasion, there are plenty of events taking place.

From the annual Shocktober Fest to potion making, here is our list of six scary events taking place across Sussex that will surely shock you this Halloween weekend.

Tulleys Shocktober Fest

Tulleys Shocktober Fest marks 25 years of screams this year, with Europe’s largest scream park offering a night filled with dazzling special effects, immersive scenery, live actors, great food and “one hell of an atmosphere”.

Attractions at the event near Crawley include The Penitentiary, The Creepy Cottage and The Chop Shop Garage.

Tickets are available from £14 and is open until November 5, with a firework display for its finale night.


Final Destination on the Pier, Brighton University Students’ Union

Students from the University of Brighton can enjoy “the biggest Halloween party” in the city on the Palace Pier.

The Final Destination on the Pier event promises to “delve into your deepest, darkest nightmares, with your heart thumping as you enter the rides”.

Expect live scare actors, unlimited rides and prizes for the best dressed.

Wristbands for the student event on October 31 from 7pm to 11.30pm are available for £25.


Haunted House Party, Globalls

Globalls in Brighton Marina is transforming its UV cocktail bar into a haunted house for Halloween, with live DJ sets, prize giveaways and a free Halloween cocktail for those in fancy dress.

The event, which is strictly for over-18s, takes place on October 29 from 7pm to 11pm with free entry.


Potion-making and pumpkin-carving, The Cauldron

Brighton’s wizard-themed bar and restaurant, The Cauldron in Clarence Gardens has embraced the spooky season with potions and pumpkin carving.

Customers can create a limited edition blood and sinew potion, squeezing drips of “creamed unicorn” to create a delicious cocktail. Customers can also book a slot to carve their own pumpkin to mark the occasion.

All guests will receive a mug of The Cauldron’s specialist warm HallowCream cider on arrival.

The venue has been decorated with pumpkins and creepy crawlies, with a selection of seasonal drinks on offer, including the Bubbling Shot of Death, The Ectoplasm Shot and The Shirley Spellman.

Matthew Cortland, co-founder of The Cauldron, said: “For us at The Cauldron, every day is Halloween, but now we get to share even more of that passion and enthusiasm with you through our thematic food and beverage experiences.”

Potion-making and pumpkin-carving experiences for all ages run until October 30, which can be booked through their website.


Shriek Week, Drusillas Park

As part of “Shriek Week”, Drusillas Park near Alfriston are offering children a family-friendly and fun-filled spooky experience. Venture through the creepy cobwebbed corridors of a live haunted house experience, take twists and turns in a terror maze and scuttle along to meet creepy crawlies and mini monsters.

The Halloween festivities last until October 30, with tickets available from £26.40 through their website.


Halloween-themed afternoon tea, The Grand in Brighton

For those who find those events a bit too frightening but still want to get involved in the spirit of Halloween, The Grand Hotel is offering no tricks, just treats with its spooky-themed afternoon tea. Its Halloween-themed tea will include special touches to mark the occasion, being served from October 28 to 31.
