Brighton is the fifth most successful major city in Britain at creating new businesses. But despite its success it has been overtaken by South Coast rival Bournemouth (The Argus, April 29).

That follows because after attending this year's national Railfuture annual meeting I stood at Coventry Station as a direct Bournemouth train left.

My journey to Brighton from the Midlands was via London Euston, the Underground - including four escalators - to Victoria Station, then a Southern train to Hove.

Sussex's disjointed, partly unelectrified, totally inadequate rail network is a disgrace. It needs expansion before the oil and road transport drivers' money runs out.
