Buses are to run on Christmas Day as part of a new trial.
A limited timetable will run for several routes in Brighton and Hove as part of a new initiative to allow people to travel by public transport on the festive day.
The buses, driven by staff who volunteer for the role, will run between places including the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Old Steine and Hove.
Ed Wills, managing director of Brighton and Hove Buses, told a Buswatch meeting that he was confident the trials will be a success.
The bus company is taking inspiration for the trial from Christmas Day buses run in other parts of the country such as the Isle of Wight, where the programme has been a success for a number of years.
Brighton and Hove Buses’ sister company, Metro buses, also runs a number of buses on Christmas Day between Gatwick Airport and Crawley.
As part of the trial, the 1, 1A and 7 routes will run half hourly along the normal routes and will run between 8am and 6pm. The 5B and 49 routes will also run normal routes every hour.
Four buses an hour will also serve the Royal Sussex County Hospital as well as the city centre, Western Road and Hove.
