I am incensed by the increased cost of my parking permit.

My permit for Zone R in central Hove has increased from £55 to £80 last year to £104 this year.

In addition, visitor permits have increased by 100% from £1 to £2 each. On top of our higher council tax bills these increases are extremely unfair and penalise those people who can't afford large properties with their own drive or parking space.

The cost of being able to park my car in the street outside my property (that is if I can get a space within walking distance - as more parking permits are sold than there are spaces available) is now nearly as high as my car tax, which is exactly what I feel the parking permits are - another form of taxation.

I have lived in Hove for over ten years and, even though I don't agree with the parking permit system, I was prepared to pay a reasonable amount for a permit. I now feel the parking permits and vouchers are unreasonably priced.

I have written to ask those people responsible for making this decision for a full justification.

I would like to encourage other residents to do the same.
