A carnival in Brighton is rebranding and moving for its 100th anniversary celebrations.

Kemp Town Carnival is changing its name to Brighton Carnival in a bid to reach more people in the city.

A spokesman for Brighton Carnival said that despite the rebrand, the carnival would still keep the “strong ties” with businesses in the Kemp Town area.

The carnival launched back in 1921 but due to the pandemic the company said it had been “unsustainable” to bring the event back to a level “worthy” of its centenary celebrations until next summer.

Next year the event aims to have even greater inclusion, spreading its reach to students too.

“There will be a greater emphasis on the lead-up to the main event. This will include bringing everyone together for fundraising events and celebrating our vibrant and unique communities,” said a spokesman for the company.

The event will bring local arts, music, culture and business together.

Brighton Carnival is urging businesses and volunteers to sign up to take part in the 2023 event, which will take place on Saturday, June 10.
