A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital with suspected serious injuries after a crash involving a car on the A259.

The collision happened at Ovingdean Roundabout near Rottingdean before 8.45am this morning.

The road was closed for more than an hour while emergency services were at the scene.

There was heavy traffic stretching back past the traffic lights in Rottingdean.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “A motorcyclist was taken to hospital for treatment to suspected serious injuries after his bike was in collision with a car on the A259 at Ovingdean on Monday morning.

“Emergency services were called to the scene at 8.45am. The road was closed while rescue and recovery work was carried out. It reopened at 10.17am.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to report online or call 101 quoting serial 240 of 31/10.”

Brighton and Hove Buses were diverting westbound from Rottingdean via Falmer Road, Warren Road and down Wilsons Avenue to get back on to the seafront.
