There has been a cable fire near Gatwick Airport which is causing delays to trains.
The fire broke out at around 9.45am this morning due to the cable moving from its normal position and “coming into contact with the electric third rail”.
Trains are delayed in the area until a permanent fix is made.
A Southern Rail spokesman said: “The cable caused some damage to the rail. Network Rail is in the process of making a temporary fix after which trains will be able to use that route (the southbound slow line) again, with a temporary speed restriction until a permanent repair can be made.
“This will ease the congestion around the airport.”
