YOUR article "Homeless on the high street" (November 1) draws much-needed attention to the plight of people living on the streets of Brighton and Hove.

I am sorry, however, that you did not provide any information on the immediate help available for people. For example, First Base Day Centre, which is run by BHT Sussex, provides for the immediate needs of people on the streets, such as toilets and showers, clean and dry clothes, hot drinks and meals, and help to move off the streets.

In addition to First Base there are a number of other fantastic organisations, including the Clock Tower Sanctuary for young people, Off The Fence, and Sussex Homeless Support.

A lot is being done to help people who are living on the streets but "the kindness of strangers" can result in people not using those services that can bring rough sleeping to an end.
