A charity choir will host an afternoon of seasonal songs to raise funds.

Martlets, which provides hospice care in Brighton and Hove, will ring in the season with an afternoon of Christmas songs at its concert later this month.

All proceeds from the event will go to making sure Martlets can continue to care for its inpatients and support families over the winter.

One volunteer, known only as Sharon, who joined the choir seven years ago said: “Singing energises me and brings me such a lot of joy.

“After a concert there’s a real buzz, and I’ve made so many wonderful friends. It’s also a good feeling to know we’re raising money for Martlets through ticket sales.”

The choir, called Good Vibrations, is made up of supporters, volunteers and patients from Martlets.

Aneesa Chaudhry, the choir’s musical director, is keen to encourage people to get involved, even if they have no singing experience.

“If you can talk, then you can sing,” she said.

The concert will take place at Hove Methodist Church in Portland Road in Hove, where the choir rehearses each week while work is carried out to rebuild a new hospice.

Sharon said: "We're currently learning new seasonal winter songs and singing some old favourites including Unchained Melody, Move Over Darling and The Wind Beneath My Wings.

She encouraged new members to consider joining up, saying: “We really need some more high sopranos. I’m one of only two. We also need some more men to sing the lower parts. But whatever your voice range or experience do consider joining us.”

The concert takes place on Saturday, November 26, at 3.30pm.

Tickets cost £10 for adults, £8 for concessions and children go free. All the proceeds go to Martlets.
