A protest will take place outside Southern Water's headquarters today.

Campaigners will gather outside the offices in Worthing to demand the company be brought back into public ownership.

The protest has been called by the trade union Unite in the South East.

“We are angry at Southern Water for failing to make good on its promise to take action to stop the leaks and pollution of our beaches, and even angrier at the  government for letting companies like Southern Water off the hook scot free," said Dorothy Macedo, chairwoman of Unite's Sussex Coast branch.

Protesters say they are angry at the repeated pollution of local beaches and say that Sussex water has "repeatedly failed to invest to stop leaks and pollution."

Ms Macedo added: “We won’t be fobbed off anymore, and want our water back. Now is the time for Southern Water to be brought back into public ownership, private companies have no right to own our water supplies."

The group protested outside the headquarters this time last year, and say that Southern Water has failed on its promise to make good.

Ms Macedo said: "The situation has got even worse. Pollution and leaks have been a regular occurrence and the company has failed to make the necessary investment to address this."

The protest takes place outside Southern Water's head offices in Yeoman Road in Worthing.

Campaigners will be there from 12pm to 2pm on Thursday, November 3.
