Fire services were called to a rescue mission after a group of sheep were caught in a flooded field.

The sheep became stuck after the field was hit with torrential rain and they were unable to get to safety.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were able to rescue some of the sheep but could not move all of the ewes due to deteriorating weather conditions.

A spokesman for the fire service said that four appliances attended the incident on Thursday, November 3, just off the A22 in Hailsham where a group of nine sheep had become trapped.

While two sheep were rescued successfully, the other sheep had to remain in the field as it was “too dangerous to enter”.

The sheep were once again caught in a similar incident the next day on Friday, November 4, but the rescue operation has been handed over to the farmer to return the animals to dry land.

Multiple fields across Sussex have become flooded over recent days after the area was hit with three yellow weather warnings.

The flooding, including in Barcombe Mills in East Sussex, has left many fields submerged by torrential rain water.
