Firefighters have worked overnight to try and tackle a huge blaze that engulfed a former care home.

Emergency crews were called to Bolnore Farm Lane, near Haywards Heath, yesterday evening after the fire erupted, with ten fire engines called to the scene.

It is not believed anyone was inside the building, which was previously a care home, when the fire started around 7pm last night.

Flames could be seen leaping into the sky, with embers from the blaze being carried away in the strong winds that hit the county overnight.

The building appears to have been completely gutted by the blaze, with aerial footage showing the roof has collapsed in several areas.

The B2272 remains closed in both directions from Butlers Green to the Muster Green roundabouts, with the fire service urging people to avoid the area.

A huge emergency response has attended to the incident, with a line of several vehicles from the fire service spotted at the scene.
