Brighton has been labelled as lively and trendy by people across the UK.

The survey by Legal & General asked respondents to select the words they most associate with various UK cities, including their own.

Respondents living in Brighton chose lively (70 per cent) and trendy (58 per cent) as the top words associated with their city

53 per cent of Brighton locals associate the city with food, compared to 24 per cent of all respondents

Brighton was voted as the most peaceful city – 14 per cent of respondents describe Brighton as peaceful, the highest of any other city

The words least associated with Brighton are rugby (six per cent) and industrial (six per cent)

Respondents also suggested other words they associate with Brighton - these were LGBTQ and Pier.

Of those who responded, 42 per cent described the city as lively and 30 per cent as friendly.

Legal & General also investigated the various satisfaction levels of people living in the UK in their Rebuilding Britain Index report. The study finds that 69 per cent of Brits are satisfied with their local area - this rose to 73 per cent among those in the South East.

The research revealed that people in the south-west of England have the highest levels of satisfaction with their local area (76 per cent of survey respondents).
