MP Maria Caulfield has welcomed a boost in funding to help arts and cultural organisations in Lewes.

The town will receive £800,000 in funding through the Government’s Levelling Up initiative, provided by the Arts Council.

The funding is part of a wider push to create jobs and opportunities in the arts and culture sector. The wave of funding particularly targeting historically underserved areas.

Ms Caulfield said: “I am focused on making sure that more people in more places can enjoy arts and culture on their doorstep and I will continue working with the Conservative Government to provide local organisations with the funding and support they need.

“The £800,000 being delivered by the Conservative Government will pay dividends across Lewes, boosting our local economy, creating jobs in the area, and bringing our communities closer together.

“We are widening access to arts and culture, so that everyone can enjoy the fantastic arts and culture on offer here in our community and the benefits that investment brings.”

Around £130million is being provided to improve arts and cultural opportunities across the country.

The government has pledged to give money to 990 organisations over the next three years with a total investment of £446million nationwide.
