A sheep has died after a “vicious attack” by a dog.

The attack took place in Owlbeech Woods in Horsham on Monday, November 7. The sheep was put down shortly after.

Horsham District Council, which owns the land, said this was the second attack this year where a sheep has died.

Dog owners are urged to walk their pets on a lead if they do not have good recall.

A council spokesman said: “Sadly one of Horsham District Council's sheep at Owlbeech Woods was subjected to a vicious attack by a dog this week and has had to be put down. This is the second time this year that an out-of-control dog has caused the death of one of our sheep.

“Please ensure your pets are under control at all times and if they do not have good recall, then they should be walked on a lead.”

Earlier this week a person was knocked to the ground by a dog at Chesworth Farm. The council said no one was hurt but that the incident “could have been more serious”.

Any witnesses to the latest attack are urged to contact the council by emailing parks@horsham.gov.uk.
