A New business is aiming to provide a Christmas must-have this year with its new subscription pairing best-selling novels with craft beers.

The Beer and Book Club, which launched for the first time on November 1, has launched as a service which allows subscribers to discover new books each month, pairing them with a range of Sussex beers.

Daniel Jones, one of four school friends who are directors of the business, said: “During the pandemic I used to sit in the garden with a beer and a book when it was nice and then we used to do it together when lockdown ended.

“One day we sat in a pub with a selection of books and we had the idea to have those moments again. We thought about doing it for ourselves but we thought that other people would like to do that as well.

“We want it to be an alternative to going to the pub one night.”

Daniel, 31, alongside school friends Daniel Reilly, 31, Bryn Lines, 29, and Michael Burton, 32, all set up the business in Shoreham with a distribution centre in Arundel.

The team is aiming to put Sussex beers at the heart of their operation, with craft beers supplied from several breweries across the region including Laine Brewery in Brighton.

The subscription services offers one book a month and is paired with six beers. As a discovery box, subscribers will not know what novel or beer they get each month.

The company is working with publishers such as HarperCollins and Penguin in order to pair the books and drinks together. Daniel said the company would aim to provide drinks that complimented the books such as dark beers with dark books.

As the business grows, the book club also hopes to offer a range of subscription options such as non-fiction.
