Mr Lobstein's comment that water desalination plants should be installed into new constructions is a good idea, but completely impractical (Letters, May 28).
There is a far simpler solution.
Southern Water is raising prices simply because they can and have absolutely no competition, and they are nothing more than a greed-driven monopoly.
As Energywatch has stated recently, there is no real competition between the electricity companies, and they should he re-nationalised as (especially in the case of Southern Water) they are not operating in the interest of the consumers, and are in effect cartels.
I strongly urge all readers to write to their MP, to demand an end to this rip-off, and for our utilities to be re-nationalised.
