Arsonists started a blaze by posting burning rubbish through a shop letterbox.
Fire investigation officers were still assessing the cause of the blaze at the Burgess Hill boiler repair shop.
They suspect it could have been deliberately started.
Two fire crews from Burgess Hill were called to the ground floor of the store in Junction Road, Burgess Hill, at about 3.20am today. The fire was extinguished shortly afterwards.
Investigations continued today..
