A horse sanctuary has found a new home after being offered a plot of land in a Sussex village.

Two families in Woodmancote, near Henfield, came to the rescue of the Happy Herd Horse Sanctuary, offering the use of ten acres of land surrounding their homes for the group’s 12 rescue horses to graze and continue their rehabilitation.

The sanctuary, part of the community interest company Equine Gentling, provides lifelong care to rescue horses, allowing them to roam freely, as well as graze, forage and socialise with each other.

The group now is looking to fundraise to erect fencing around the plot of land, expected to cost around £2,000.

Founder Dan Corbin said: “We have been overwhelmed with the generosity of these families.

“Our next challenge is enclosing the land with safe and secure funding so we can move safely to this new site.

“Given the recent extreme weather, we need to move the horses as soon as possible to avoid having to supply additional feed, like hay.”

The organisation has set up a crowdfunder to raise funds and is also asking local building or fencing companies who might be able to help to get in touch.
