The area west of Wish Park and Boundary Road becomes a free car park for vans and cars from Friday midday to Monday morning due to the greed of the council and NCP. Why seven-day control?

Most councils, including London boroughs, have free parking from 6pm Friday to 9am Monday in residential areas. People should not have to get up at weekends to move their vehicles or pay. There are many empty spaces in the parking zone on Saturdays and Sundays.

When the parking zone is extended, as it surely will be, it should be for the benefit of the residents, not for profit.

I'm afraid Vic Parks' suggestion that we unite and fight Brighton and Hove City Council over parking issues is five years and £7 million too late (Letters, May 26) The damage has been done.

To come into the city can cost you a parking fee, a fine through the many cameras and a possible clamping at the end of the day.

This will all depend on just how much the council and NCP decide they need from the motorist.
