The Christmas Market has made a triumphant return to the city.

Brighton Christmas Market, at St Peter’s Plaza in York Place, is back for its second year.

David Hill, founder and managing director of E3 Events, the company that runs the market, was there to open the event to the public today.

He said: “We’re really excited to be back here for another year of the Brighton Christmas Festival.”

Councillor Lizzie Dean, Mayor of Brighton and Hove, was there to cut the ribbon.

She said: “It is wonderful to welcome all these traders to this Christmas market.

"It is now just 37 days until Christmas so what better time to get started with Christmas shopping and getting involved in festivities."

The market has stalls selling Christmas gifts from hats and scarves to cheese and chocolate.

The stalls are in traditional European-style chalets, which Mr Hill said are “really authentic.”

Alongside the shopping stalls, there are a range of stalls serving food and drink.

Visitors can also enjoy a virtual reality sleigh ride and an Après Ski Lodge bar serving mulled wine and German craft beers.

There is also a big wheel next to the Christmas chalets where riders can see views of the city.

The market opened at 1.30pm today and is open every day until Christmas Eve.

Stalls selling gifts will be open 12pm to 9pm Monday to Thursday, and 10am to 10pm Friday to Sunday.

Food and drink outlets at the market stay open until 11pm every day.
