EYEWITNESSES said school pupils were forced to wade through water after a minibus was caught stranded in a flooded rural road.

The minibus, from Bede's School in Upper Dicker, was unable to escape floodwater after the driver attempted to drive down the White Way between Cuckmere Haven and Alfriston.

Eyewitnesses claim that pupils from the school had to wade through the water in order to escape the minibus, one of a number of vehicles stranded in the road on Thursday, November 17.

A photo from this morning at 9.30am shows that the bus was still stranded following the flooding.

A bin lorry was also stranded in the flood water which has been caused by heavy rain overnight.

The vehicles have since been recovered.

The minibus can be seen partially submerged with water up to the wheel arches of the vehicle.

The vehicle is stranded in the middle of the road alongside the bin lorry which was also unable to wade through the water.

Roads in Alfriston have been subjected to significant flooding following recent weather which has caused the River Cuckmere to overflow.

A red flood warning has since been issued for the village.

A yellow weather warning for rain has also been issued for the area earlier this week.
