IN THE November issue of Rottingdean Village News, which goes to every home in the village and is available at various other outlets, and through my own social media and email newsletter, I asked people to contact me direct with their thoughts about the various traffic calming measures on Rottingdean High Street including "The Planter".
To date, I have only received 28 emails and had around 12 face-to-face conversations. I also encouraged people to turn up to the November meeting of Rottingdean Parish Council to share their thoughts. I was unable to attend but was surprised to hear that only about 35 people turned up even though apparently 1,200 have signed an online petition.
I have asked Brighton and Hove City Council’s road experts who know the history of the various traffic interventions to attend a village-wide meeting (which I will arrange) where we will examine the NO2 (nitrogen dioxide) data and weigh up the pros and cons of the current situation. I am waiting to hear back from council officers about their availability.
This meeting will be well publicised around the village and I hope that people will attend as this is the place to share thoughts. Whether the planter stays or goes is for people who live and/or work in Rottingdean to decide.
