A police car was involved in a “serious” crash that has closed part of the A27 for hours.
Investigation work is ongoing on the stretch between Arundel and Worthing after the collision at Hammerpot at 1.30am.
The A27 westbound has since reopened, but the A27 eastbound remains closed from Crossbush to the A280.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: "Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to investigate this serious incident."
Pictures show a damaged police car on the side of the road.
Another vehicle can also be seen with considerable damage.
