A war memorial has been smashed into pieces in an act of vandalism.
The memorial, which commemorates a landing ground in Rye used during the First World War to counter German Zeppelin airships, was found with its stone plaque broken up almost two weeks after Remembrance Day.
Now farmland, Rye Airfield was used as a Home Defence landing ground for the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service - the predecessors to the Royal Air Force.
The commemorative stone in Camber Road in Rye was unveiled in 2019 in a special ceremony and was dedicated to all the units and personnel based at the airfield from December 1916 to 1919.
Officers are encouraging anyone with information to contact police by quoting reference 0540 22/11/2022.
