Members of a gym are embarking on a gruelling mountain challenge to raise money for charity.

The Train Station gym at Preston Park station in Brighton has encouraged its members to join a trek in the Brecon Beacons to support Kennedy Street Recovery, a charity which helps people suffering from addiction.

Gym owner Paul Cowland is leading a team taking on several peaks including Pen y Fan, the highest mountain in the Beacons.

Paul said: “We all know someone who has been affected by addiction, and I’ve been impressed by what Kennedy Street Recovery has achieved, so wanted to give something back.

“We are all fit blokes and decided to challenge ourselves by walking up some mountains, while raising some cash for the charity. It will be wet and windy and very muddy, but we will feel good about doing it.”

The expedition will take place on December 3 and every pound that they raise for Kennedy Street Recovery will be doubled as part of the Big Give Christmas Challenge, a charitable fundraising week that runs from November 29 to December 6.

Kennedy Street Recovery is run by Clare Kennedy and helps people to overcome addiction and go on to lead productive lives.

Its recovery hub, which opened last month at Rostrum Lodge opposite St Peters Church, is a place where people can find out about recovery and get coaching and support to stay sober.

Clare Kennedy, chief executive of Kennedy Street Recovery, said: “We know that addiction can affect anyone, regardless of age or social status, but it can be overcome with the right support in place.”
