Tributes have poured in for a 12-year-old boy who was killed when he was hit by a car.

The boy, who has been named locally as Tyler Wills, was struck in Crawley Avenue, Crawley, on Friday at around 2.45pm.

Flowers, tributes and a picture of Tyler have been laid near the crash scene and candles and teddy bears have been placed on railings nearby.

A fundraiser has been set up by friends of the family which has already raised more than £9,000 to pay for funeral costs and a gravestone.

It aims to give Tyler “the best send off and one he deserves”.

Tributes left at the crash scene include notes saying “fly high with the angels” and that he will be “missed beyond all measures”.

A heartrending tribute from Tyler’s parents calls him “our darling boy Tyler”.

It says: “The first thing we remember is your gorgeous smile, your kind heart and how caring you were towards everyone.

"The memories you’ve left us will stay with us for ever."

It says Tyler was the “best son, brother, grandson and nephew we could have ever asked for”.

The note adds: “We hope you are smiling up there looking down on us. As we know you’re the brightest star shining in that night time sky.

“Some think goodbyes are for ever, but they’re not. A goodbye is simple we’ll miss you till we meet again. We hope to see you every night we dream, missing you will be a heartache that will never go away.

"We love you, our darling boy Tyler."

Tyler is understood to have been on his way home from school and was crossing the road near a flooded underpass.

Workmen were at the underpass draining it this morning.

Sussex Police said no arrests have been made and the driver stopped at the scene after the crash.

The force said they are in contact with them and the family.
