The Met Office said to expect spray and flooding on some roads making journey times longer.

A spokesman said: “Further rain is likely to affect Sussex at times on Sunday afternoon.

"This may ease for a time, but there is then a chance of a brief spell of heavier rain during Sunday evening.

“Ten to 20 mm rain is likely to fall, with a chance of one or two places seeing up to 30 mm; this more likely during the evening.

"Given saturated ground and high river levels, this brings the risk of some flooding. The rain is expected to clear eastwards by midnight.”

There is a red flood warning in Climping, near Littlehampton.
