Police have launched an urgent appeal... for spare tennis balls to reward police dogs at Gatwick Airport.
Officers from Gatwick Police have encouraged people to “make a dog’s day” by donating unwanted tennis balls to the force to treat their four-legged colleagues for their work at the airport.

A spokesman for Gatwick Police said: “We would like to make an appeal to anybody who has some spare tennis balls that they no longer need for our wonderful police dogs who use these as a reward for their hard work around the airport - please get in touch if you can help.”
Gatwick police dogs have been used for vehicle stops and searches for explosives. The police and airport’s Twitter account often carries pictures of the canine companions on duty.
More than 2,500 police dogs are employed among the various police forces across the country, with the Belgian shepherd the most popular breed used for general purpose work.
The use of police dogs became popular in the 1930s after Scotland Yard added them to its force.
