A care worker has won a prestigious national award.

Emily Carver-Prue, who works at Maycroft Manor Care Home in Carden Avenue, Brighton, was awarded the care activities co-ordinator title at the National Care Awards.

“Winning this award means a great deal not only to me personally but also to my team, residents and families,” said Emily.

“I have worked in care for four years after a long career in education, I always say this is the best job I’d never heard of.

“The best part of my job is not the big things like winning awards, it’s the small things.

“It’s families telling me they’ve got their mum, dad or partner back after a long time struggling to care for them at home.”

The awards ceremony took place at Park Plaza in Westminster on Saturday.

First established 24 years ago, the awards recognise and celebrate people in the long-term care sector.

Emily added: “People see going into care as the end of the road, the last chapter in their life but I love that our team can provide opportunities for everyone so that it can actually be a new beginning, of learning new things and making new friendships and living life to the full.”
