A community has rallied around to remember a boy who was killed by a car while crossing a busy road.

There has been an outpouring of emotional tributes remembering Tyler Wills, 12, who died on Friday afternoon after he was hit by a car in Crawley Avenue, Crawley.

His stepfather Pete Fraser said several people have been at the crash scene paying their respects and putting down flowers for Tyler.

A walk is also being arranged in Tyler’s memory, with people encouraged to wear red as he was a Manchester United fan.

Pete said: “There are no words to describe how we feel. We popped down yesterday, we were down there for more than two hours. Lots of his friends were down there and it was nice to see people turning out.

“When we sort the funeral out, we are going to invite as many of his friends as possible. We’re going to tell the school that as many of them that want to come to remember him.

“So many things are happening that you aren’t used to. We’re taking it day-by-day.”

The walk is being arranged by Sarah Hall, from Crawley.

She said: “After speaking with Tyler's family we have decided to arrange a mass walk in Tyler's memory.

“It will be up to his memorial where we can all spend some time and share memories, or just support each other like we know Crawley are great at and to perhaps let some balloons up.

“We also need to make a stand and ensure this doesn't happen to anyone else.”

The date for the walk has not been confirmed yet.

A fundraiser has also been set up which has raised more than £12,000 to give Tyler “the best send-off and one he deserves”.

Pete Fraser said the Ifield Community College pupil tried to cross the road because of the flooded underpass, which regularly fills with water.

A petition is being started to demand improvements at the underpass and prevent it flooding again.

There are also calls for a crossing and speed camera to be put in on the road above.
