The A27 will be partially closed for 25 nights for newly-announced roadworks.

The roadworks, which begin next week, will mean parts of the A27 near the A23 Brighton junction will be closed on weeknights until January 27 next year.

National highways said the work is "critical to maintaining and improving safety."

The works are repairs and maintenance of the Patcham Viaduct bridge on the A27, located close to the junction with the A23.

The diversion route will take motorists through Hove.

From the Patcham junction to the Devil’s Dyke interchange, the A27 will be closed weeknights between 8pm and 5am:

  • westbound from Monday 5 to Monday 19 December 2022
  • eastbound from Monday 9 to Friday 20 January 2023
  • westbound from Monday 23 to Friday 27 January 2023

There may also be a lane closed on the opposite carriageway.

According to national highways, a diversion via the A23, A270 and A293 to the Hangleton junction "offers the best alternative route".

The Devil's Dyke interchange will remain open for local access.

A spokesman for national highways said: "These essential works may generate additional noise through the night and we will make every effort to ensure the impact on the local community and travelling public is kept to a minimum during these repairs."

The roadworks could also take longer than expected due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
