Every year when Christmas rolls around the same debate is brought up - when should the Christmas trees go up?
There are many sides to this argument, but the most common two are choosing to decorate somewhere in November or at the beginning of December.
Some people may believe that, Christmas starts alongside the beginning of advent and can be marked by the act of putting up the decorations. The beginning of advent is four Sundays before Christmas, meaning this year that it lands on the 27th of November.
Advent is symbolic of the period leading up to the birth of Jesus which is celebrated on Christmas day. It is believed by many that, because we have advent calendars to show the countdown to Christmas, that the beginning of advent is also the beginning of Christmas. Therefore, the correct time for Christmas decorations to grace our homes would be the beginnig of the advent period.
This theory could also be used for the opposing side of the argument. Those who think that Christmas decorations should be put up in November may take note that, advent begins in Novemver aswell this year. This means that if you believe that decorations are due at the beginning of advent then prepare to decorate soon!
Personally, my family puts up our trees on the first weekend in December and we listen to Christmas music whilst we do so. Followed by our favourite Christmas film to finish the day off.
Some people put up there trees and tinsel in October, or some even on the 24th of December. However, it is important to remember that Christmas is viewed differently by billions of people everywhere and every religion, family and individual person has their own beliefs.
