One of the stars of an all drag theatre production coming to Brighton has paid homage to the city for celebrating queerness.
Drag Race UK’s Cheryl Hole and River Medway, alongside Drag Race’s Willam did not let the wet weather stop them exploring the city ahead of their new show Death Drop: Back In The Habit, which arrives at the Theatre Royal Brighton on December 13.
The trio visited the new Christmas display in the Royal Pavilion Music Room to get into the festive spirit, as well as specialist drag shop Brighton Birdcage, before stopping in for a spot of afternoon tea at 2 Church Street with residents including Bake Off semi-finalist Janusz Domagala and drag queens Alex Fincher and Zorana Dawn.
“We have been having so much fun with this show,” said Cheryl.
“It’s one of those joyous experiences that not many artists get to have.
“For us as a community to have a full drag artistry ensemble- it is a celebration of queerness.
“Everyone is getting so many moments to shine and it’s so great to watch your peers excel.
“Death Drop is pure escapism.
“I haven’t performed in Brighton for such a long time.
“I think the last time was when we did the season one tour back in 2019.
“So to come back three years alter is very full circle.
“But to be as a top billing artist on a theatre for two weeks is going to be so exciting.
“It’s been so great to hit pause on the drag drag world and throw myself into a project like Death Drop and get my acting chops back on.
“I always love Brighton as a city because it is a queer celebration city.
“And everybody’s game for a good time.”
Willam also reminisced about previous visits to the city.
“I’ve been to all the gay bars, I worked here in 2012,” William said.
“I would say Brighton and Manchester are my favourite cities in the UK.”
Death Drop sees a gaggle of “fabulous” nuns trapped in their convent with a serial slayer slashing their way through the sisters.
Victoria Scone (RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Season 3, Canada vs The World) will also star in the show, as well as drag king LoUis CYfer with a full drag supporting cast.
The play's creators have promised that as the clues are unearthed by Sis Marple, audiences will be laughing in their pews as the “hilarious, fierce, all-drag killer comedy” comes to its “thrilling and uproarious conclusion”.
