A project will provide over 250 families in need with a hamper of food this Christmas.

The Christmas Hamper Project, founded by a range of local groups, has packed 260 hampers for families in “critical financial need.”

Families in Burgess Hill will receive food hampers funded and packed by Burgess Hill District Lions and Burgess Hill Town Council to name just two organisations getting involved.

A spokeswoman for the scheme said: “Community groups have been working together to bring some Christmas cheer to those in need this year.”

Volunteers worked hard to pack the hampers, sorting through thousands of food items, to ensure that families won't go hungry.

Pupils from Burgess Hill Academy and Downlands Community School joined volunteers to help pack the hampers.

More volunteers will then deliver the hampers to those in need over this weekend.
The Rapid Relief Team donated 98 additional boxes to the project, helping to ensure that any last minute requests were fulfilled.
