The Crown's Erin Doherty reveals her favourite haunts in Brighton

Erin Doherty, best known for her role as a young Princess Anne in Netflix’s The Crown, grew up in West Sussex and now lives in Brighton.

The actress has spoken about her favourite places to shop in the city for The Little Blue Book of Sharing - a celebration of ten years of American Express’s Shop Small campaign.

“Growing up in West Sussex, mine and my family’s local high street was the heart of our community,” she said.

“I have many fond memories of small, independent businesses who were so charming and welcoming.

“Now, since living in Brighton, we’re so lucky to have everything you could imagine on our doorstep - and there’s a real sense of community amongst all the small, independent businesses that populate my local area.

“I think now more than ever we need to support small businesses and show huge love and appreciation for the courageous people who have put time and effort into creating them.”

Doherty revealed her favourite independent restaurant to share a meal in is Oeuf Café in Hove, and her favourite to share a laugh in is Plateau in the Lanes.

“You can never go wrong with the Frumpets,” she said.

“I love the candlelit breakfast option and the brilliantly sourced produce from the local community.

“I love Plateau in the Lanes. It has a great selection of small plates often using local produce. It has a great cocktail list and best of all it’s pet-friendly, so everyone can go.”

While her favourite café is the Flour Pot Bakery in Sydney Steet, Brighton.

“They do the best almond croissants,” she said.

“Best of all though, it is open seven days a week, so I need never be deprived. Artisan baking at its finest.”

The 30-year-old also gave a shoutout to one of the city’s oldest florists, Gunns.

“It’s been trading for over 100 years and really is a celebration of shopping small,” she said.

“Great flowers and always helpful with advice and loads of creative thoughts.”

Doherty revealed her favourite music spot is Resident in Kensington Gardens and her favourite place to buy festive gifts is Enter Gallery in Bond Street.

She also shared the shop she frequents the most.

“Papersmiths, I have a mild notebook obsession and Papersmiths offers me hours of incredible fun,” she said.

“Beautiful diaries and gifts. Everyone will be getting a notebook this year for Christmas.”

And her favourite shop which gives back to the community is Hisbe in York Place.

“Offering fresh produce and a great ethos, plus a lovely smile for everyone,” she said.
