A nursery which last year faced closure has been offered a new home.

Staff at Old School Nursery in Arundel are celebrating after Arundel Football Club offered them use of its clubhouse in Mill Road.

The nursery had been desperately looking for somewhere to relocate to since September when it was asked to vacate the classroom it was using at Arundel CE Primary School.

The school said it needed the classroom to cope with a growing number of pupils.

At the same time Arundel's only other nursery was also faced with closure when West Sussex County Council said it needed the building it was using.

This plan, which would see the rooms above Arundel Library turned into a unit for children who could not attend mainstream schools, has since been put on hold indefinitely.

The closure of both nurseries would have left the town with no pre-school provision.

The offer from Arundel FC means that for the next two years, Old School Nursery will be able to use the club's function room and store equipment on the site.

The county council has agreed to pay for any changes to the building in order to make it suitable for pre-school nursery education, including refurbishing the toilets and building a storeroom.
