England fans praise the Three Lions’ "clinical efficiency" as they secure a place in the quarter finals of the World Cup.

Fans across Brighton packed out bars and pubs for the game yesterday evening hoping England would beat Senegal to get through to the next round of the tournament.

Fan favourite Ye Olde King and Queen in Marlborough Place was packed with hundreds of football fans hoping England would triumph against Senegal and bag a place in the third round of the competition.

People queued outside for up to 45 minutes to see the game, and in the run-up to kick-off England fans were mostly confident about the game ahead.

Laila and Jenna, both 18, expressed their excitement for the match.

Originally from Egypt, the pair had switched loyalties to support England after their home team failed to qualify for the tournament this year.

“Senegal was the team to eliminate Egypt from the tournament, so now we will be supporting England,” said Jenna.

Salma and her friends chimed in with the pair and said that England would win the game comfortably.

Spirits were equally high inside the pub, with deafening chants of It’s Coming Home filling the venue before kick-off.

After a “cagey” start according to one fan, Gareth Southgate’s side gained confidence.

Eyes were glued to the screen, with chants getting louder and louder as Jude Bellingham assisted Jordan Henderson to score the first goal.

Just ten minutes later and England were 2-0 up with what one fan described as a “screamer” from captain Harry Kane.

After both goals there were shouts of joy and fans threw drinks into the air to celebrate.

Fans flocked to the toilets and bar during half-time, already elated by the Three Lions’ strong lead.

Less than 15 minutes into the second half and the crowd erupted into a roar again as Bukayo Saka cemented England’s lead scoring the third goal.

Chants of England ‘Til I Die filled the pub and once again drinks were thrown into the air as the crowd jumped for joy.

With England so comfortably in the lead, fans appeared distracted in the final minutes of the game.

As the final whistle blew, elated fans cheered.

But, because it was a school night, they were quick to head home.

Paul Holder and his friend Andrew, who were sat on the balcony at Ye Olde King and Queen, expressed their glee at the win.

"Two words for England tonight. Clinical efficiency," said Paul.

Looking ahead to Saturday's quarter-final, the pair expressed uncertainty about what the game will hold.

"France are one of the best sides in the competition," said Andrew.

Paul said: "It's a coin toss between the two.

"We just have to wait and see."

As fans made their way home, staff at the pub were quick to begin the clean-up effort, sweeping up hundreds of paper cups.

England will now face France in the quarter-finals on December 10 at 7pm.
