Brighton is to host Britain's first divorce fair - a one-stop shop for everything you need to know about breaking up.

The Starting Over Show is designed to help people bounce back from relationship break-ups and life crises.

Organisers chose Brighton as their first UK venue after research showed South Coast towns had some of the country's highest divorce rates.

Hove has the second highest rate in Britain with nearly three in ten marriages, 29%, ending in divorce, according to consumer research firm Claritas.

In Brighton, Littlehampton and St Leonards, more than 21% of marriages end in divorce. The national average is 16%.

Suzy Miller, the event producer, said: "More than 140,000 UK couples divorce each year, not to mention the thousands of co-habiting couples who need to extricate themselves from shared mortgages and lives.

"Some civil partnerships are now breaking down too so we wanted to make a show that was very inclusive.

"On the day we'll create a safe haven in which soon-to-be singletons can take professional advice to build the confidence and skills they need to go it alone."

The show will offer all kinds of help, from how to start the business you always dreamt of to sorting out your pension or mortgage or taking more care of your health. Experts will include divorce lawyers, business advisers, health professionals and independent financial advisers.

One of the key speakers will be renowned motivational coach and author Nick Williams.

Miss Miller also hopes a company of pole dancers will attend the event as her research found the hobby helped to boost women's self-esteem.

Miss Miller came up with the idea of putting on the show at Brighton Racecourse on October 11 after talking with friends about fairs which have taken place in Austria and Holland.

She said: "I thought it was an excellent idea. For people going through the process, it often feels as though there is not really much help available."

The event is also intended to appeal to people starting over for other reasons such as a bereavement.
