How sad that some Fiveways residents see fit to moan about precious parking spaces being taken up by car clubs (Letters, June 6). It would be interesting to know how many cars are owned by the letter writers' families and how many hours a day they are actually used.
My wife and I moved to Brighton a few months ago from a location where it was a necessity for each of us to run a car. But now in a town where buses run on time, taxis are plentiful and walking is a pleasure we no longer choose to own two heaps of metal which were each depreciating by about £200 a month just sitting in the street.
We joined Streetcar and what an excellent service it is. As far as we can tell the one vehicle parked two minutes from our door is shared by us and two or three others. The carbon footprint of car club users is no more than a tiny toe compared to those families who feel they have to own one vehicle per adult. Thanks to Streetcar there are two less cars in Brighton as far as we are concerned.
