Residents in parts of Sussex live in some of the safest regions in England, according to a recent study.

Horsham and Wealden are among the safest places, with a drop in average burglary rate each year of more than 20 per cent since 2017, according to Confused.com.

Horsham, which placed seventh in the list, had only 0.86 burglaries per 1,000 people last year, while Wealden, eighth on the list, had 0.92.

South Devon and Dartmoor was revealed to be the safest region in England, with thefts down by almost 13 per cent since 2017 and only 0.63 burglaries per 1,000 people.

By contrast, Middlesbrough was found to be the most dangerous region in the country, with 7.86 burglaries per 1,000 people last year.

The price comparison website used sources including the Office for National Statistics to determine the safest areas of England based on historical burglary data.
