Passengers may find trains are delayed or cancelled this morning as Southern rail services are disrupted.

The delays, which have been caused by a points failure, mean that one line is currently blocked.

Services between Lewes and Eastbourne are at risk of being cancelled or delayed due to the disruption which comes ahead of more Christmas travel chaos due to rail strikes in the coming days.

An update on the Southern rail website said: "A points failure between Eastbourne/ Seaford and Lewes means that the line toward Lewes is currently blocked.

"As a result, trains running to and from these stations may be cancelled or delayed.

"Disruption is expected until 09:30."

The points failure means that trains from Eastbourne and Seaford cannot travel towards Lewes.

Those travelling before 9.30am are being told to expect delays and to leave extra time for thier journeys in order to minimise disruption.

Rail replacement buses have been ordered in an attempt to help customers get to their destinations.
