Walking on stage to the uplifting sounds of The Who's Baba O'Reilly, The Pigeon Detectives had the audience in a state of high expectation.
But when the Leeds-based five-piece kicked off with latest single, This Is An Emergency, from their second album, Emergency, it was clear their new brand of bland guitar rock lacked the intensity of material from their debut, Wait For Me.
There were good points to the gig, though.
Infectious numbers, such as Take Her Back and show-closer I'm Not Sorry, caused overexcitement in the crowd, while the band's tight musicianship did not go unnoticed.
But it's obvious Pigeon Detectives are more of a good-time festival band - best enjoyed outdoors while splashing beer up people's backs.
