A road will be closed for the next two months to replace 3km of old metal gas main with a plastic pipe.

The work is on Jevington Road, between Jevington and Polegate, a road that connects the A259 and A27.

The work started on Monday and will continue on March 3.

A spokesman for Southern Gas Networks said: “This essential work involves the replacement of the old, metal gas main with a new plastic pipe to ensure we can continue to provide a safe and reliable gas supply.

“In agreement with East Sussex County Council, we have planned these works in three phases to reduce the impact for the local community and to support farming operations.

“Due to the width and the location of the gas main in the road, we will have to close the road to through vehicle access during each phase of work.

“We are replacing approximately 3km of gas main, a complex project that will take a number of months to complete.”

Local access to businesses and homes will continue.

Phase one of the project started October 3 and ended on December 2 last year.

Phase three of the project will be from September to December this year.
